Elvis Presley Song:

Promised Land (1974)

(Music and lyrics by Chuck Berry)

This song was originally written by Chuch Berry while he was in jail on the charge of transporting a minor across state lines for immoral purposes. Elvis' version of Promised Land went to achieve #14 position on billboard charts when released as a single in fall 1974. Immediately following, in January 1975, RCA released an LP with the same name. You can find the song Promised Land on the CD Promised Land. ":Working on a T-bone steak a la carte, Flying over to the golden state. Ah, when the pilot told us in thirteen minutes, He would set us at the terminal gate."

This song has long been one of my favorite Elvis songs. I have a jukebox and the albumn that this song is in is one of my favorites. Every time I turn the jukebox on it automatically goes to number 2210 which is that albumn and the 10th song is PROMISED LAND. I have played it so much that it knows where to go first!! I have always been an "E" fan and we lost him way to soon. I still get goose bumps when I see him in a video.

But remember it was the GREAT Chuck Berry who wrote this song. He arguably is the real king of Rock and Roll as John Lennon called him!
As usual Elvis takes a good song and makes it great.I already have the studio rendition. Is there a live version?

I GREW UP WITH ELVIS MUSIC. I AM CLOSE TO HIS AGE and know what it's like to be poor. Elvis is gift from above. All of his music is great. I'm like his mama. All of his songs are the greatest. He was a wonderful person.

I heard WAYNE NEWTON open up his show in LAS VEGAS in 2004 with this song. I hadn't heard this song since the ELVIS documentary film "That's The Way It Is". Wayne did it justice!

I had heard a few bands do the song during the middle and late 70's but I never knew who originated it.

Yeah, its an old way of reaching a phone exhange through an operator. Check the lyrics:

And let me make it to the telephone

Los Angeles give me Norfolk Virginia
Tidewater four ten o nine
Tell the folks back home this is the promised land calling
And the poor boy is on the line

I've been looking for years now; the last phone number to graceland for which Elvis was still living.

I Really Love This Song, And Love Elvis Too.

This song is one of his best...well at least that's what I think I love it because it is a song that really dance too
Rock on Elvis!

I really like this song (along with a lot of other Elvis tunes). I am trying to find a CD with that song on it. Can you help me? When I go to the record stores I can't seem to find it on any of his numerous CD's.

I want to find it so I can add it to my collection. It's a great tune to put in when you're taking a road trip. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jim

This song is found on Promised Land CD, sold at Amazon.com and other stores.

I live in norfolk, VA. (also known as the tidewater area) and I was wondering what "Tidewater four ten o' nine" means. One thinks it's a zipcode but its not. Not even close all the zips in va start with 2 and most are 23 but I was just wondering

That is referring to a phone number located in that area. In times past, US phone numbers had letter area codes in front of the actual phone number. So it probably was a phone number TW4-1009. See also What does this line mean? At Jordan's Elvis World forums.

24K Gold Music Shows
50s/60s/Elvis/oldies showband in Florida

24K Gold Music Shows is a large oldies musical revue (126 people) performing primarily in Florida. The shows are filled with lots of choreography, energy, and great fun with oldies, country, and Elvis songs.

The last 1/3 of each evening show is an Elvis Tribute, featuring his music based on arrangements from his 1970s concerts. And every show is different.

24K Gold Music Shows understands there was only one Elvis Presley, so NO ONE in in the band will ever attempt to "impersonate" Elvis or pretend to be him, nor even be as good as Elvis! The show they are doing is a sincere tribute to the King, with NO attempt to mock him.

So in 24K Gold Music Shows Elvis tribute show you will be reminded of Elvis through his songs, sung with similar arrangements to those he used in concert, and see some similar costumes to those he wore, just for nostalgia's sake.
