Originally performed by Tony Joe White in 1969, Elvis started
performing this song in 1970 and onwards in his concerts and shows.
Later Elvis also did other songs by Tony White
(I've Got A Thing About You Baby and For Ol' Times Sake which
were both released on singles).
Polk Salad Annie is kind of a weird song, and it was originally
meant for a joke throw-away song. It talks about a family
where the brothers are stealing, dad is lazy, mom is working for
a chain-gang, and all they have to eat is poke salad that Annie
goes to gather every day for supper.

I just recently heard this song. I think it's great and shows Elvis had a wide range of music. I'm 75 years old and still have several memorabilia of Elvis, loved him then and still do

One of my favourite Elvis film clips. Just one shoulder shimmy and it is time to melt. And I do love Polk Sock Salad as well. No matter what your mood or situation there is an Elvis song. His gospel songs help me through the hard times, Love songs fill my heart, and all the rest make me melt. I listen to him every day. Forever a King's (wo)man.

I love Polk Salad Annie, because not only does it sound nice, I love the movements that Elvis did at his "That's the way it is" concerts in Las Vegas on the song.

I will never forget when I was 13 years old, got dad's Elvis records out on a rainy day, put the headphones on and on came Polk Salad Annie. I thought what power from a song. Hearing the crow go wild. I thought this man has power of entertaining to
make people enjoy. I have studied Elvis since then, him on stage, his rehearsal of songs. He has changed my life. I am 31 yrs old now doing a sheep show in Japan for four years now, entertain over 500,000 Japanese people, because Elvis showed how. Thank you Elvis, you are the best.
