Elvis in the movie Stay Away, Joe

Elvis Movie "Stay Away, Joe" (1968)

"Stay Away, Joe" is a comedy type Western, where Elvis plays rodeo champion, Joe Lightcloud.  Joe returns home and wants to raise cattle and help support his family.  There's a welcome home party, fighting scenes, Indians, etc.

The songs Elvis gets to sing in this movie are "Stay Away, Joe", Lovely Mamie", "Dominic" (which seems to be about a bull), "All I Needed Was The Rain", and "Stay Away". "Dominic" is a song that Elvis is said to have hated so much that he didn't want the soundtrack released.

This film is like Marmite - you either love it or you hate it. If it wasn't for the embarrassing "Dominic", it might have gotten a higher rating from me. I think it's clear to see what they were trying to do - it just failed. Not his worst film though.

Sorry folks, I would say this might be the WORST of Elvis' movies. The story is all over the place, and the acting is nothing to be proud of. I love Elvis, but this movies BORES me tremendously. The opening song with the shots of Grand Canyon were great, and then it all turns bad!

Great movie! Elvis looks good, as always, like the Sedona, Arizona scenery.

Well this is a great movie one of the funniest I [reviewer claiming to be Elvis] made. I had a lot of fun making this film. It's a wild movie full of fighting, girls, and gun blasts. The songs are alright. Favorites like Stay Away Joe, Stay Away, All I Needed was This rain, and Dominque, but there is no song called "lovely mamie" in this film.

Burning Love by 24K Gold Music Shows       More videos

24K Gold Music Shows is a large oldies musical revue (126 people) performing primarily in Florida. The shows are filled with lots of choreography, energy, and great fun with oldies, country, and Elvis songs.

The last 1/3 of each evening show is an Elvis Tribute, featuring his music based on arrangements from his 1970s concerts. And every show is different.

24K Gold Music Shows understands there was only one Elvis Presley, so NO ONE in in the band will ever attempt to "impersonate" Elvis or pretend to be him, nor even be as good as Elvis! The show they are doing is a sincere tribute to the King, with NO attempt to mock him.

So in 24K Gold Music Shows Elvis tribute show you will be reminded of Elvis through his songs, sung with similar arrangements to those he used in concert, and see some similar costumes to those he wore, just for nostalgia's sake.
