This is my fave Elvis movie ever, the best acting role he performed, in my opinion. This is proof of what he could have been if only we could turn back time and save his career. ELVIS PRESLEY FOR EVER!

Wow, this is another one of Elvis' great movies. The same guy who directed "Casablanca" directed "king creole", and it shows. Right from the opening scene we get to see the street where Danny lives, with some excellent camera interplay of the crawfish lady leading to the classic Elvis song. The movie builds in tension throughout. Elvis brings something new to the screen, and is a totally different character to the one he played in "Jailhouse Rock". Even though he is still required to play an angry young rocker, he manages to do it without doing a parody of his other cool roles. He gets to play opposite real screen tough guys like Walter Matthau who plays a tony soprano type and it is also one of the few times in Elvis' whole career that he gets to have a complicated mature sexy lady as a costar, in Carolyn Jones. The music is absolutely stunning, dixieland jazz mixed with rock n roll and well sung ballads and blues. It is no wonder Elvis was proud of this one. A moody, tense foggy, black and white, New Orleans, seedy sense of danger permeates throughout as the boy comes good at the end, and only then does the tension lift.

This is Elvis' best movie. This shows that Elvis could act, and Elvis doing his James Dean bit. Elvis should have had more roles like this one.

My entire review is designed to bring you honest information. With each of Elvis' pre-army movies there was a sense of progress and lessons learned. "Loving-you" was a cut above "love me tender". "Jailhouse rock" and "king creole" required him to do more than play himself. Critics give it such glowing reviews. They should have been smart to realize that from the start. In my opinion, Elvis is an excellent actor, but to tell you truth, this is not Elvis' best movie of the 50s. This is a very good movie, and the casting was excellent. I like it. I give it an 8 rating. I could be wrong, but don't bet on it. The director told Elvis to shave his sideburns and lose weight. This is where the problem started, not in the army, but some stupid, dumb comment the director made.

This is another astounding piece of video work that really says a lot about Elvis' acting ability. It is a classic that should never be forgotten.

This is Elvis' best movie overall. It has a top-notch selection of songs, a good story line, and a stellar supporting cast. It is one of the few Elvis Presley movies that I enjoy watching every so often.
