Elvis in the movie - Blue Hawaii

ELVIS MOVIE "BLUE HAWAII"

In the romantic comedy film "Blue Hawaii" (1961) Elvis plays the part of Chad Gates who returns to Hawaii from serving in the army two years.  His parents want him to work in their pineapple plantation, but he wants to make a go of it on his own.  His mom is played by Angela Lansbury.  He works with his girlfriend, Maile Duval (Joan Blackman, who also appeared in Elvis' tenth movie, "Kid Galahad"), as a tourist guide leading five girls around, and gets to sing and dance with Hawaiian women in grass skirts.  He gets thrown in jail for fighting and fired from his new job, but everything works out and he gets married in the end.  Scenery is beautiful and music enjoyable.

The songs include "Blue Hawaii", "Almost Always True", "Rock-A-Hula Baby", "Beach Boy Blues", "Hawaiian Sunset", "Moonlight Swim", "No More", "Slicin' Sand", "Hawaiian Wedding Song", "Island of Love", and one of Elvis' most popular love songs, "Can't Help Falling in Love".  Later Elvis used this song as a finale in his concerts.

I think all Elvis films are great. Blue Hawaii is probably a favorite. I think he's a good actor as well, though I know many critics would disagree. I do wish he was still around and his life would have went in another direction, though on the same note today's society and media would rip him apart like they did Michael Jackson, so who knows maybe it was for the best things went the way they did. He left us with great movies, great music, and great times. We will never see another Elvis. Everything he did was perfect. He gave us great entertainment, with moral boundaries and good values. There is a reason all Elvis movies are shown every year, and all year long. Way to go, Elvis!

This is a nice "feel good" movie. That's all; it's nothing special. He looks great throughout it, and sings like an angel. This is also the movie that put an end to his acting career because "Blue Hawaii" made so much money and was his biggest hit album ever in his lifetime, that his manager decided Elvis could forget about starring in movies with real scripts like "King Creole", "Flaming Star", and "Wild in the Country", movies that required actual directors and not many songs. So I guess it is the people who bought his records and queued to see this one that ultimately decided the fate of Elvis' movie and recording career. Only Elvis could have resurrected himself after seven years of this. I do like his formula movies, because they're fun and Elvis is in them. It is a shame none of his 1961 concerts in Hawaii were not filmed at this same time.

Elvis looked so handsome, and the music is enjoyable. The movie scenery is just gorgeous. It is the best Elvis movie, I think!

[translated from Spanish] I have only seen the end on video on YouTube, and that alone filled me with deep emotions and feelings. I was fascinated by the singing and the landscape. I will try my all to get the movie. Elvis lives!

This rates as Elvis best movie of the formula stories. It has an exceptional soundtrack, and of course the Hawaii scenery is outstanding. Very good supporting cast led by Angela Landsbury. The soundtrack is worth owning, and most people do not remember that the album was number one on Billboard Albums Charts for an amazing 20 weeks. Some other trivia: "Blue Hawaii" is an old Bing Crosby song; "Moonlight Swim" was an old moderate size hit sung by Anthony Perkins ("Psycho" fame), and "Hawaiian Wedding Song" was a single released several years earlier by Andy Williams. "No More" has its music taken from the old classic song "La Poloma". "Can't Help Falling In Love" only reached number 2 on the Billboard charts; but was one of only three songs that were certified platinum for 1962 (the other two were: "Good Luck Charm" and "Return to Sender"). Elvis still ruled in '62.

50s/60s/Elvis/oldies showband in Florida

24K Gold Music Shows

24K Gold Music Shows is a large oldies musical revue (126 people) performing primarily in Florida. The shows are filled with lots of choreography, energy, and great fun with oldies, country, and Elvis songs.

The last 1/3 of each evening show is an Elvis Tribute, featuring his music based on arrangements from his 1970s concerts. And every show is different.

24K Gold Music Shows understands there was only one Elvis Presley, so NO ONE in in the band will ever attempt to "impersonate" Elvis or pretend to be him, nor even be as good as Elvis! The show they are doing is a sincere tribute to the King, with NO attempt to mock him.

So in 24K Gold Music Shows Elvis tribute show you will be reminded of Elvis through his songs, sung with similar arrangements to those he used in concert, and see some similar costumes to those he wore, just for nostalgia's sake.
