The fan story of: Freda, 27

I became to like Elvis when years ago they had a special on him during his birthday. It was a marathon and I watched every single movie until 6:00 IN THE MORNING. I COULD NOT TAKE MY EYES OFF OF HIM AND HIS SINGING WAS PHENOMENAL. He is such a humble person and he gave everything to his fans until the day he died, and I want to continue to give back by remembering him. He really touches your soul and your heart. He had problems; we all do; we all make mistakes. I think what bothered Elvis was the image people had put on him and he felt as if he had to live up to that. I have heard many times from the people that were closest to Elvis, such as in his band, that he did not like being called the king.

Elvis always questioned why God gave him such a talent. He was a very deep person and I am the same way, so I feel a connection, an understanding. I used to idolize Elvis for just who he was on stage and his great music, but now I respect him as a human off stage as well and how he sang from his heart, how he felt every word he sang.

I am so glad to be an Elvis fan. They say there is only one God. I believe there is only one Elvis also. My favorite Elvis song is hard to pick. I do like the song American Trilogy. When he sang it at the Aloha, Hawaii concert, when he belts it out at the end, it gives me goosebumps and the song "I can't stop loving you" so many I love. My favorite movie of his was probaly Jailhouse Rock. My favorite part was when he was singing "Treat Me Nice" with that sweater on and his hair looked so gorgeous.

Elvis was also so funny. I can go on all day about him, and last I love how Elvis was so spiritual so it makes me believe he is right where he started from, the protection of God's arms, and he is with his loved ones that passed before him. Rock on Elvis, and rest in peace. Even though a lot of people are trying to bring you back from the dead, you sang your heart out, you became tired, you deserve the rest. We fans can only keep you alive in our hearts and memories and, I wont stop loving you

My story dates back to the 1960's. I remember going into a department store in my home town and seeing many Elvis 45 rpm records for sale. Then later I heard his songs on the radio. I had 150 LP albums of his at one time. I watched many of his movies on television and enjoyed them. Recently I have started collecting photos of Elvis and have them in 10 photo albums on a website on the Internet. I'll have to include a couple more albums because some of the pictures don't fit into the albums I have now. I like Elvis because he is very handsome and charming, I like his singing because he added emotion with it. I love his smile and his comical nature. In some ways he had a heart of a child and it showed in his facial expressions. I like the colorful costumes that he wore. I like Elvis because he didn't want the lifestyle of the rich and famous top movie stars. He chose to live a middle class lifestyle. He was a very special man and I miss hearing his music on the radio. He was someone that I would have liked to meet.

I recorded a cover of "His Latest Flame" last year for a local charity album. I secured all of the proper licensing and tried to do my best as a little tribute to the man. Thought some of you might enjoy it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moIdDz5yFfc.

I don't remember how I started an interest in Elvis, but I do know that when I was in my teens or 20's I had a collection of Elvis LP records, 100 of them. I still have an interest in him today. I really like his singing and the wardrobes that he wore, especially in the 1970's are very striking and made him look very handsome. He lived just like we do and that is why so many people loved, and still love him today. I am glad that he got his roots from Gospel music. When he performed on stage he took his time and he didn't go by a time schedule, which was another quality of Elvis that you don't see in other performers. He served his country in the military and started a hospital for children in Memphis. He loved to sing in concerts as his goal was to give the audience a good time, which he did very well. He is a hero of mine and I love him. Thank you, Elvis, for making us happy by just being you.

Elvis Ppresley was a pure inspiration to the ones that could appreciate who he was, the gift he has given the world. I don't remember when I fell in love with ELVIS, maybe I just fell head over heels and it happened so fast. He had a harsh life but he was always there for the fans. I hope he is in heaven with his mother rocking the Elvis pelvis. We love you, Elvis. Thank you so much for everything and you will never be alone. Our hearts are with you. You may rest now and continue to wear the crown of the king. You are my king of hearts.

When I was 5 or 6 years old, my mother gave me two Elvis Records. I had a little record player. The records were, "Elvis' Golden Records" and "Elvis in Concert 1977 CBS Special."

I remember thinking, man ... I want to do that someday! I had never seen any video of him, just the pictures that were in and on the albums. The electricity from the live album, and also from the Golden Records album, made me itch! I couldn't stop listening and singing along.

When I was 7 or 8 my parents bought me a guitar because I had been hounding them since my Elvis record experience. I've been a true fan ever since. I perform live doing my own music, and will often do an Elvis song or two in my shows. I love him! He is the reason I am doing what I love.

I love Elvis the king or rock and roll.
I have loved Elvis ever since I can remember.
I have never been to any of his conserts, as I am just 15. But I love him and I am his number 1 fan and I always will be. I have been to see Lee Memphis King live in Consert how is an Elvis impersonator. He was so good.

I have got a lot of Elvis things. Elvis Aaron Presey lives on in my heart. I would like to be just like him when I'm older. I would like to shake just like him but make up my own songs. I want to bring that shaking witch Elvis done back.
Long Live The King

I have been an Elvis Fan for as long as I can remember. The first time I saw Elvis it was in a Movie on TV in the afternoon, I was sick that day and stayed home from school. Ever since that day I have been a fan. I never got to see him but when he played in Seattle I was about 19 years old and couldn't get tickets. I really wanted to see him with all my heart. In Aug 1977 when I found out he died I was so upset that I went into labour, I was only six months pregnant and I was in labour for 4 days then I had a premature baby Girl 2 lbs 4 oz. Well today she is 30 years old and we both Love Elvis, of course she grew up listening to all the music. I went to see Lisa Marie Presley whe she played in the Red Robinson Theatre in Coquitlam BC.

Hi,
I consider myself a big Elvis fan probably the only one in Iraq.
I started listening to Elvis music since I was 10 (now I'm 26), and since Iraq is so short on Elvis music and collectables, no Elvis fan clubs and no one to share with, I started my search journey since that time. I searched everywhere for his music, albums, posters, movies, and concerts. I've been into every music store, every possible alley (dangerous or not) just to find a small album cover or even a photo copy of an album cover.
Now, after so many years I'm proud of it all and I'll never stop that wonderful journey that I started 16 years ago. I have a nice big collection of Elvis original albums, posters, VCR concerts and movies, CD's, and DVD's. This dedication and commitment never seem to stop, on the contrary, if you like a performer or a band probably you like him for a while and then that's it you switch to another performer or band but with Elvis it's just a total diiferent case, it's increasing year after year, month after month, day after day, and hour after hour.
Elvis music was there for me and with me through the good and bad and I just can't have enough of it. No words enough to describe the feelings an Elvis fan has. Fans know that.

I've been listening to Elvis just recently as in 2 weeks. And ever since, I've been downloading all of his live bootlegs and music like mad. Fat or skinny, its still the same person all the same.
These days people use the word "Legend" too loosely and it wears off the true meaning.
Elvis like Sinatra or Bowie is truly a "Legend"

I was 8 years old and my mom put on a 45 of Can't Help Falling In Love, it was my parents wedding song. She played the flip side and I was bouncing off the walls! Every Birthday, Christmas, any holiday with a gift, I asked for ELVIS or money to buy ELVIS! I got teased at the time from friends who were into Kiss and the like, but now that I'm older, I JUST HAD GREAT TASTE! He will always be THE KING! I've been to his home many times.... makes me sad and happy all at the same time? If anyone needs help understanding the KING? Watch the American Idol Duet with Celine... He has been gone so long but a video of him will upstage any current singer since he left! He will NEVER be replaced!

The fan story of: Geoff Allard, 33

I think I've been a fan as long as I can remember. I was at the bus stop when I was in Kindergarten (not too long after Elvis had died) and I heard this girl singing "Hound Dog". I didn't own any records at the time and had no real knowledge of any music or specific artists, but somehow I just KNEW that was an Elvis song. Shortly thereafter, a neighborhood friend came over and had a handful of cards and said, "Hey Geoff, want some Elvis cards?" I said sure. I ended up collecting those cards (Boxcar, 1978) like some kids collect baseball cards - and that's not to say I didn't like baseball; it's my favorite game to this day. Then I realized my Grandma had a few of his records and I would play them constantly when visiting her and made a point to buy as many as I could with my allowance. My favorite one was a 2 record set just called Elvis which she had bought off of television (Brookville Records).

Now she's passed away and I fairly recently realized that that particular record was released on TV the same month I was born. My mom has told me that when I was a baby if we were at Grandma's house and I was crying, all they had to do was put on some Elvis and I would stop crying. My guess is that the record they put on was that 2 record set.

It became an obsession - I spent all my allowance on trying to get every record I could and I soon knew every one that was ever made, but unfortunately several were no longer available at the time (including the one my Grandma had - it was only offered for a brief time through TV mail order).

I also had to learn to play the guitar, which finally happened at the age of 9 or 10. Later, I got into the Beatles and eventually more modern harder rock including Led Zeppelin and Motley Crue and Van Halen. For my guitar playing I prefer that stuff nowadays, but I have never forgot and never will forget how it all started for me. It was Elvis. It almost seemed like a natural born instinct knowing who he was. There was probably a lot of media exposure that I picked up subconsciously, but I was never aware of any of it.

To this day, I still totally enjoy listening to his music or even watching the movies (many of which I feel are unfairly underrated; the point is to be entertained, and most of them accomplish that). I am even still pursuing my childhood goal of owning the entire collection of his albums (at least the originals released while he was alive) and with the advent of the computer I am almost there. Thank you Elvis for piquing my interest in rock and roll, and getting me into playing the guitar (I have gotten pretty good at it). Long live the King!

I've boughten more CD's and I think I've heard every song he's ever made and I've seen most of his movies. Roustabout is my favorite so far.

I have loved Elvis forever. My first memory of Elvis is when I was 5. There was an Elvis movie on tv, when it ended my cousin was crying just because she didn't want the movie to end!:) I couldn't figure it out. But now I know!! Although he is gone he still has a great presence. My kids are fans as is my five year old niece. I've been to Gracelnad several times and would go today at a moment's notice!! Unless you are a true Elvis fan then you can never truly appreciate Elvis for all that he was and is. I'm also very defensive of Elvis. I get sick of people who just believe the tabloid trash. Elvis had his faults but he was a good man. Just go to Graceland and see all the charities and people he gave to. Cash, cars, etc. He was respectful and believed in God. According to people who knew him he was a great friend. People who say negative things about Elvis should walk a mile in his shoes before they are judgemental on his life. I will always be an Elvis fan!!! I just got my Elvis By The Presley's book and am eagerly awaiting the 4-hour miniseries movie plus the the show Elvis By The Presley's. Elvis Lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The fan story of: C.J. Gish, 33

I was 12 years old and entering sixth grade when I really got hooked on Elvis. My parents were big fans and I remember listening to the radio in Pendleton, Oregon, at the age of 6 and hearing that Elvis had died. One of those moments that sticks with you forever. I greased my hair my entire sixth grade year (in 1983, this was kind of odd). But I really got Elvis fever and it has never left. I've got a ton of original albums and 45s and huge cassette and CD collection, along with all of his movies on VHS and DVD. My wife has never really liked the guy, but my kids don't mind listening to dad's Elvis tunes every now and again. I've always loved his voice and the variety of music he sang from his early 50s rockabilly to the later 50s rock 'n roll, to his swooning ballads of the 60s, his gospel music, his late-60s comeback stuff and his 70s concert and studio music. He just has it all -- charisma, great voice, personality, humility. I'll always be a fan and Elvis will always be ! a big part of my life.

The fan story of: Kevin Young, 21

Growing up, my dad was a huge Elvis fan, I wasn't. Infact I remember getting in arguments with hime to turn that "crap" off. My dad did mean the world to me, my mother left when I was four. He raised my brother and I alone and treated us like a prince. I moved away when I was 14, to stay with my mother. Things didnt work out well, she never did want me there to begin with, and in no time she put me in foster care. While there I had no contact with my family, I cried thinking about my dad. One day I was in a mall and heard Elvis on the speakers, I smiled the bigest smile ever and remembered my dad. I went to the local library and found some tapes and CD's of Elvis. I started to listen to his music when ever I was upset or missed my family. Elvs brought on a whole new meaning in my life. I like to think he helped raise me and care for me when I had no one. I am a huge Elvis fan now and, even though I live a few houses from my dad, I still think of my father when I hear his mus! ic. I now have an 18 month old son and he likes Elvis as well. He watches his concerts with me and dances to his music. Elvis taught me a lot of values in life and helped make me a better person. I love you Elvis, where ever you are, and thank you for your support and help.

I became an Elvis fan when I was 16 years old. I watched Jailhouse Rock on TV and was blown away by this beautiful man with a voice like honey. I was into boy bands at that age and Elvis was billion times better and from that day, I was a huge Elvis fan. I started to watch all his films, buy CD's, Record's and books, I wanted to know everything about him and now I am obessed. I even went to Elvis The Concert in 2001 and it changed my life, no other concert has the power to change my life and make me a better person. I am going to the concert next Friday too! I am also saving up to visit Glacelands in 2008 and it's coming along fine, I really cant wait. What has Elvis got that no other singer has?? A voice like honey or melted chocolate, an spirit that lives on in his fans heart and a life story that makes other stars weep. He did everything and made the way for new stars around the world. He is deeply missed and I feel like even though I wasnt born, I am 24 years old now, he! is still here and will never die.

I think the first I heard of Elvis was in fact the JXL remix, as I was only young, but haven't looked back since. I brought the Greatest hits and realised I knew some of the songs and loved the rest! I brouight all the cds and dvds i caan find, and if given one wish I'd go watch him live. He is my life and his music has helped me when i've been close to the edge, there is an elvis song for every moment. I remember seein the live unchained melody for the first time - it sent shivers down my spine and brought tears to my eyes. I even taught myself to sing by copyin elvis and found out i actually have quite a strong voice, and enjoy nothing more than singin songs like american trilogy and cant help falling in love. Every1 at school knows about my obsession, and have even said i look like ehim, and mannerisms i use on stage are like him. Mum is takin me to Graceland and I cant wait!!! I'll be kissing the ground that God walked on!! Elvis lives on inside each and every one of us,! and will be around for many a year to come. Elvis is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. WE ALL LOVE YOU ELVIS!!!!

I started liking Elvis when I was 6 yrs old. I him him on t.v. in the movie Blue Hawaii and I was hooked! By the time I was 12 I was listening to KRLA's radio broadcast of 1 hour of Elvis nightly from 11pm-12 midnight. I'd have my head set on and the radio on real low and no one knew I was awake that late! When he died in August 1977... I was beyond myself. I know Elvis' music and voice he's become like an old friend... I think most real Elvis fans feel that way. Today, I'm still a fan... forever Elvis and my 9 year old daughter is a fan too!

My love for elvis was kind of sudden. My uncle brought an elvis CD to my house & I wanted to listen to hound dog since i always knew that song. As i read more about him and discovered the great things that he did, i loved him more. When i saw pictures of him when he was young, i became crazy about him. I feel like I was born in the wrong time period. I would do anything to go back to the 50s. I have fourteen elvis movies, a t-shirt with a big picture of his face, 4 documentaries, a DVD about him, a calendar, and about 30 pictures. I LOVE ELVIS SO MUCH.

The fan story of: Shari Barrows, 25

I have LOVED Elvis ever since I first saw him in the movie, "Blue Hawaii" at a tender age of 11. The first impressions I received was unique (different), talented (both as singer and actor), very sexy, and handsome. Born two years after Elvis' passing, I too felt like I've known him. He had a God given talent that no one will ever duplicate again. His raw sexuality and singing ability is something really special. Having a difficult childhood growing up I could always rely on Elvis music to help me through. No matter the mood; happy, sad, angry, etc. there was always an Elvis song that described it perfectly. Ive always wondered, why did I have to be born in the wrong time period? If its ever possible to build a time machine, I would love to go back in time to the year 1956 and see Elvis on The Ed Sullivan show. Elvis will forever be in our hearts; especially mine. LONG LIVE THE KING!

I knew elvis when I was 10 through my aunt who was a great elvis fan, I liked his music and his good looks so much, but what really turned me on Elvis was a terrible lonely night which I was alone at home, just 14, my parents had died in an accident, my country facing a war, under bombraids, only his voice was consoling me he was reading "A bridge over troubled water" and I felt he was reading just for me, and I didn;t feel lonely and scared anymore. From then on I love and adore ELVIS AARON PRESLEY!

I was 12 or 13 years old and I saw Elvis on the Ed Sullivan show on our black and white 14 inch table model TV. At the time my father owned a store and one of the waitresses who had a license was going to the next city to see Elvis in Love Me Tender. She offered to take me with her but my father was reluctant, he acquised and of course I saw Love Me Tender. I was hooked. When I graduated from High School as a present my father bought me a HI-FI which really is a record player with speakers and also the album GI Blues. I still have that album. It was my very first and of course many have been added since.

The fan story of: David Strachan 68, Wales, UK

It was during 1955-56 that I became an Elvis fan as I was in Germany doing my National Service and they were playing Elvis on the radio and at the fairgrounds. When I was demobbed Elvis was catching on in England and used to go to a record shop to hear Elvis latest 78. Went to see GI Blues and was hooked buying all the latest LP's. I joined the OEPFC and went on my first trip to the States in June 1977 to see Elvis in Concert. Little did we know we were to witness Elvis last two Concerts in Cincinnati and Indianapolis..they were great! Have attended Conventions Disco's and made many friends in the Elvis World, been to Memphis, Hawaii if not for discovering Elvis would not have happened!

I fell in love with the song Don't Be Cruel before I had ever seen Elvis and then you see this beautiful man even at 6 yrs old you fall in love. It is a love that has never been match by another artist because there is not one out there that when they sing it sounds as if it is being sung to you personally. Elvis just had it and no one else has ever been able to find it. Then when you grow older and find out what a loving and caring person, how much he has done for others, the charities that he gave to and then for all of us fans who demanded so much from him and he gave all to us. I feel we were so fortunate to have him in our lives. Thank you for this site.

The fan story of: Judy Fielstra 63 years young

It was 1956 & I was a 15 year old student in my bedroom getting ready for school. I had my radio on & was just half-listening to it when suddenly I heard this VOICE come through the speakers. The thrill I felt right then was something I had never experienced before & I just had to find out who that VOICE belonged to. After school that day, I called the radio station to ask who was singing that song that I had heard that morning~~~ I think the song was "Don't Be Cruel"~~~ & the DJ told me that he had been getting others calls from people asking the same question. He then told me that the song was sung by a man named Elvis Presley. I remember thinking "that's a really funny name, but I still want to know more about him & hear that VOICE again!"
Some time later, I found out that this "VOICE" with the "funny name" was going to be on TV.... on Sunday night.... on Ed Sullivan Show..... 8 pm. My family always attended Sunday night church services & I told my parents that we needed to hurry right home after the service so I could see the Ed Sullivan show. We usually watched that show anyway so they wondered why I was so anxious to see it this night. I told them because Elvis Presley was going to be on it. My Mom said, "Who? That's a funny name!" Well, "funny name" or not, we hurried home from church & I plopped my self down on the floor inches away from the TV set. After not too patiently waiting, Ed Sullivan finally announced, "Here's Elvis Presley!" & he bounded out on to the stage & launched into his first song. I was just mesmerized! His VOICE thrilled me just like the first time I had heard it & now I was seeing what the VOICE looked like! It was like "frosting on the cake!" My Mom said,"Is that the guy you wanted to see~~ the guy with the funny name?" My answer a simple "Yup!" as I inched closer to the TV. I heard my Mom tell me to "get back from the TV~~~ you're too close." I couldn't move~~ in fact I inched even closer. It was like I was frozen! She repeated her plea, but I ignored her. I heard her say to my Dad, "What's wrong with her?!" Again, my Mom said, "Judy, get back away from that TV! You're going to ruin your eyes!" Apparently she wasn't so concerned about WHAT I was seeing~~~ she was more concerned about my vision!

That was 48 years ago now, & the "VOICE with the funny name" is still a big part of my life & always will be.

By the way~~~ I need to wear glasses for my vision. Maybe my Mom was right! LOL

I remember being an Elvis fan when I was about 4 or 5. It's kind of hard to remember how it started. I think my sister played his music and something about his looks and voice influenced me at that early age. I never turned my back on him like a lot of kids do today with singers-they like them one moment and go to the next one who comes along. not me, I've loved Elvis all through the years. I admit I'm a fan of a few country singers, but Elvis is always 1st on my list. I have been to Graceland and hope to again. I remember when he passed away, I was in shock and could hardly function. I cried for days and every anniversary still hurts.

I wish that if I got to see him that 2nd time I was planning on giving him a rose. I wanted to show him my love for him. I'm sure he's looking down from heaven and knows that there is still so much love and devotion for him after all this time from so many of us for the way he has touched our lives with his music, movies and that beautiful face and humanity and great sense of humor. I love listening to him and hearing his laughter when something would strike him funny. Elvis will never be forgotten.
